Expenses vs Income

Most people have more expense transactions than income transactions, so the input for new transaction amounts defaults to a negative amount. To add income, either click the big - button to the left of the input or else prefix the amount with +.

Payees

The list for auto-completing payees is generated from all the payees on all transactions. To help manage the list, go to Tools > Payees and use the “Mass Update” section.

There’s also a “Merge Payees” area that groups payees Buckets thinks are likely the same, then gives you the opportunity to assign a name to them.

Payees were introduced in Buckets v0.76.0. For those that want to transition from memos to payees, use the “For Older Budgets” section on the Payees tool.

Mass editing

If you would like to update multiple transaction as once:

  1. Click the “Edit” button at the top of the transaction list.
  2. Use the checkboxes next to each transaction to select which transactions to modify.
  3. Enter new values using the form at the top.
  4. Click the check button to apply the change to each selected transaction.
